I was trying to install Alcohol 52% on my laptop so that I could image some CDs to be uploaded to Beta Archive, only to find that the free version of Alcohol 52% has a mandatory adware requirement: If I want to use Alcohol 52%, I must also infect my computer with adware, and one cannot be uninstalled without also uninstalling the other. This is not acceptable. (Neither is buying the full version for $50, for that matter.) Now, my question is: What image formats other than Alcohol 52% are acceptable, and how do I generate them from a computer running Windows XP?I can also mount the CDs on my iMac, which runs OS X 10.10. Once done, I can use the 'dd' tool to create a byte-for-byte dump of the volume as it appears to OS X, but I understand that this is only acceptable for floppy disk images, due to it missing certain extended content when applied to CDs. Does anyone have any other ideas? Please?Thank you for your assistance. This is a portable version of Alcohol120% without the adware install.
You can also use Daemon Tools to dump to MDF format.Unfortunately there isn't any viable alternative, the only alternative was CloneCD which has by long been abandoned. If there's any good low level way of dumping and preserving disc that comes without the adware then it would be great to know. I will however look into the means of making an Alcohol120% installer that works with drive emulation and without the adware.Official guidelines:::Tools:::Listings:Channels::. For CDs that provably have no subchannel data, what is wrong with BIN/CUE?What about DVDs: they have no subchannel area, instead they have the ID/IED/CPRMAI/EDC area (in each data block) and the Control Data Zone (in the leadin), both of which are totally unreadable by consumer DVD drives (at least from a users perspective - there is no read command that will return them on a standard DVD drive).
